When I first qualified as a therapist, I felt a deep sense of accomplishment, but I also felt adrift. While I had the training and knowledge, I wasn’t quite sure how to navigate the real world of therapy. The internet offered what seemed like a sea of advice, with resources, forums, and communities that promised guidance. But the sheer volume of information was overwhelming. Which sources could I trust? Which path was the right one for me?
In those early days, I often felt as though I was fumbling through on my own, figuring things out the hard way. There were moments when I doubted myself and wondered if I’d ever truly find my footing in this field. It wasn’t just about gaining more experience or getting more comfortable with clients—it was about finding a community of therapists who understood the unique challenges and joys of our profession.
As the years passed and I grew more confident in my practice, I started meeting students and new therapists who were in the same position I had been in. They shared similar stories of feeling isolated and unsure of how to move forward. Like me, they longed for a sense of connection and community. They wanted to find a network of like-minded therapists to help them grow, learn, and support one another.
However, I quickly realised that many of the existing communities for therapists could be quite exclusive. Some groups seemed to only welcome certain types of practitioners, or they operated with a competitive mindset rather than one of mutual support. This made it difficult for therapists, especially those just starting out, to find a place where they truly belonged.
And that’s when it hit me: If I was feeling this way, and if others were too, there had to be a better way. I believed in the importance of community and connection, and I knew that if we could come together as therapists—no matter our background, specialisation, or level of experience—we could accomplish something incredible.
I’ve always believed that at the heart of what we do, we all share the same goal: promoting excellent care for animals and empowering those who care for them. Whether you’re working with animals directly or helping their human companions better understand their needs, we are united by our passion for improving the lives of the creatures in our care. And I believe that by coming together, we can enhance our collective knowledge and skills in ways that will benefit not only us as professionals but also the animals and clients we serve.
This belief is what inspired me to start The Animal Therapist Sanctuary.
The Animal Therapist Sanctuary is more than just a group or a forum—it’s a supportive, inclusive space where therapists of all backgrounds and experience levels can come together to share their wisdom, ask questions, and offer support. It’s a place where we can collaborate, rather than compete, and where every therapist is valued for the unique insights and skills they bring to the table.
When I talk about animal therapists, I mean it in the broadest and most inclusive sense. Whether you’re a:
- Veterinary Nurse
- Animal Behaviourist
- Rehabilitation Therapist
- Animal Chiropractor
- Massage Therapist for Animals
- Animal Reiki Practitioner
- Dog Walker or Trainer
- Pet Bereavement Coach
- Animal Physiotherapist
- EMMETT/Bowen Practitioners
Or any other type of animal care professional dedicated to improving the well-being of animals—you are welcome here. The Animal Therapist Sanctuary is a place where every role is recognised and valued because each of us contributes something vital to the care and support of animals.
In creating The Animal Therapist Sanctuary, I wanted to offer something different. I wanted to build a community where exclusivity and competition had no place, and where every therapist, whether they’ve just qualified or have been practising for decades, could feel welcome. It’s a space built on the belief that diversity in experience, training, and perspective only makes us stronger as a profession. By embracing these differences, we can all learn from one another and become better therapists in the process.
So, if you’re a therapist—whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been in the field for years—I encourage you to join us. The Animal Therapist Sanctuary is a space where you can connect with others who share your passion for animal care, where you can find the support you’ve been looking for, and where you can contribute your voice to a growing, thriving community.
Imagine what we could achieve if we all came together. Picture a network of therapists, all dedicated to learning, growing, and helping one another. A place where you can ask questions without judgement, share your successes and challenges, and find inspiration from those around you. This is the vision for The Animal Therapist Sanctuary, and I would love for you to be a part of it.
No matter where you are in your journey as a therapist, there is a place for you in this community. We are stronger when we work together, and by building each other up, we can make a real difference for the animals we care for and the people who love them.
Join us at The Animal Therapist Sanctuary, and let’s create something amazing together.
